What is a vulvar varix?
A vulvar varix is a dilated vein of the vulva, usually located on one or both outer labia (just like a varix could be on the calf).
There are also pelvic varices, which affect the pelvic region, or perineal varices, affecting the perineum area.
Vulvar varices occur mainly in pregnant women. A true discomfort, they are among the many ailments that can disturb a pregnant woman during her pregnancy.
What treatment for vulvar varices?
The prescription of venotonic medications, anti-itch creams, and compression stockings are generally prescribed; unfortunately, these solutions are not always effective.
Raising the bed, using cold water jets, and applying frozen pea bags can relieve pain when lying down.
In the face of a lack of effective solutions, sclerotherapy surgical interventions, far from being trivial, are beginning to multiply to relieve women who are too uncomfortable.
Fortunately for pregnant women, vulvar varices generally disappear after childbirth!
However, if vulvar varices persist, it is advisable to consult a phlebologist/angiologist to rule out any pelvic congestion syndrome.
Vulvar varices: what are the causes?
The causes can be multiple and vary among women:
- Dilation of the veins in the pelvic area, compressed by the uterus
- A lack of tone in the walls of blood vessels
- An increase in blood volume during pregnancy
- Hypersensitivity of the vulva to hormonal changes
The multiparity of pregnancies and chronic venous insufficiency that some women suffer from are factors that promote the appearance of vulvar varices.
Vulvar varices: what are the symptoms?
To better diagnose them, here are the symptoms:
- A feeling of swelling in the vulva, more specifically in the external labia (with or without bulges)
- Itching and burning sensations
- A strong feeling of heaviness in the vulva while standing
- Discomfort during sexual intercourse
- Difficulty walking or lifting the legs
The process of diagnosis:
-
The clinical examination : The importance of a clinical examination, ideally in a standing position, to best visualize all the varicose veins.
-
Imaging : the Doppler ultrasound is the ideal tool to diagnose, assess the extent of varicose veins, and potentially exclude other pathologies.
Vulvar varicose veins during pregnancy: is a cesarean section mandatory?
The presence of vulvar varicose veins does not contraindicate a vaginal delivery. However, if the vulvar and pelvic varicose veins are too large and painful, there is a significant risk of hemorrhage during delivery. In this case, a cesarean section may be preferred to avoid complications.
Testimonials from women who have suffered from vulvar varicose veins:
Testimonial from Adeline
“During the 3rd month of pregnancy, I developed a vulvar varicose vein in the groin area. I tried level 2 compression tights, I even tried layering 2 pairs, nothing relieved me. To my great dismay, no other solution was offered to me. Thanks to Pelvinity, I was able to experience my pregnancy peacefully without suffering.
The panties are super comfortable, you get used to them very quickly and you don’t feel them. Well positioned, they supported my pelvic area and the pain disappeared. You feel relief from the very first time.”

Testimony from Mériame
“Around my 4th month, I felt a strong heaviness in my vagina without knowing what it was… I am a nursing assistant in maternity, I encounter several reasons for consultation in the emergency room and I never made the connection…
This heaviness was inexplicable, I felt strong itching, I was only relieved when sitting. For these reasons, I decided to consult my midwife, the diagnosis was clear: VULVAR VARICE…
She prescribed compression stockings and Daflon; I am relieved at times but it remains very painful.
The Pelvinity Panties were a revelation for me! No more pain, no heaviness, no itching even while standing!”

Testimony from Camille
“During my first pregnancy, I had vulvar varices that appeared in the 8th month, I realized that the subject was very little discussed on the internet and the solutions were non-existent.
When I became pregnant again, vulvar varices appeared right from the start. Since they were painful and I knew it would last a long time, I set out to find an effective solution. I ordered the Pelvinity panties and everything changed for me! No more heavy feeling and the pain that follows.”

Testimony from Elodie
“At the end of my 3rd pregnancy, I started to feel a heavy sensation in my vulva, I didn’t know at that moment what it was about, I managed to endure this pain until my delivery. But during my 4th pregnancy, this pain appeared much earlier and was increasingly painful.
While conducting research to find answers and especially solutions to alleviate this discomfort, I discovered the Pelvinity compression panties!
Trying it is adopting it! I was able to continue walking and live my late pregnancy peacefully. »

Testimonial from Adeline
“I experienced my first pregnancy with a swollen vulva, feeling an enormous weight daily, without knowing exactly what it was. After my delivery, all these symptoms had disappeared; it was just a bad memory.
Postpartum and my body barely recovered… baby 2 on the way! And there, surprise, the vulvar varices are back but this time much earlier (at the end of the 1st trimester). What a nightmare!
I got the Pelvinity compression panties which improved my daily life; being very active, I could no longer do without them. »

Testimonial from Marie
“Starting from the sixth month of my pregnancy, I began to have bothersome and painful vulvar varices daily; standing for long periods was difficult to bear. Despite compression tights and venotonics, I was not relieved of the pelvic heaviness related to the varices.
Thus, I tested the Pelvinity panties thanks to an acquaintance who gave me Emmanuelle's contact information. They immediately provided me comfort and allowed me to continue working as a freelance midwife. I appreciated the support for the pelvis and pelvic area.
I highly recommend the Pelvinity compression panties to all women suffering from pelvic heaviness. They are adjustable and adaptable to different positions in daily life. »

Testimonial from Delphine
“During my third pregnancy, I was bothered by vulvar pain from the beginning of the second trimester. At first, it was mainly during my workdays when I was standing for 12 hours straight… I tried compression stockings and tights, but it didn’t change anything. I was hesitant to talk about it given the location of my pain. Then I discovered the Pelvinity compression panties, I didn’t buy it right away… only to regret it later!!! It was a real relief (and on top of that, I no longer had pain in my pelvis) to the point that I couldn’t work without it. I wore it until the end of my pregnancy. I am very grateful to HeraPreg for working towards the well-being of pregnant women.”

Testimonial from Margaux
“I started suffering from a varicose vein as early as my 4th month of pregnancy. As a restaurant manager, the Pelvinity panties were essential for me to progress calmly through my pregnancy and continue working. The support was much stronger than a regular maternity belt, providing me with a lot of comfort and relief from the discomfort of this varicose vein.
“Once worn over the underwear, it doesn’t bother and its simplicity of adjustment is ideal. I recommend it to all concerned pregnant women.”
